The currency of Slovakia is the Slovak Koruna, with one Koruna equalling 100 Halierov. Notes come in denominations of Sk5000, 1000, 500, 100, 50 and 20, with coins coming in denominations of Sk10, 5, 2 and 1, and 50 Halierov. Currency can be easily exchanged at a number of locations – bureau de changes, banks, hotels, larger travel agencies and border crossing points. Traveller’s cheques are accepted in banks and bureau de changes, and to avoid additional charges, they should be made out in US Dollars, Pounds Sterling or Euros. ATMs are located throughout the country, and both credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, large shops and other places.
